Presence
The physical body was given to us to experience life as a human on Earth. It is our shell -the home to our soul, our heart, and our mind. Like a turtle, we use our shell as shelter. At times, in fear, we go inside this carapace depending solely on its protection for survival. Like a switch, we turn off; autopilot. However, while working, walking, typing, talking, and even sleeping, the mind never stops perceiving and processing information. It is natural to want to heal the physical body after a long day. Perhaps a massage will relax your back, and a hot shower will calm you down. However, many tend to forget the importance of relaxing the mind and its interrelatedness to the body’s wellbeing.
In a time where a series of intense life-changing events has affected nearly everyone on the planet, it is easy to forget simple tasks such as breathing or being still. Yet, these are of utmost importance. This array of situations we encounter daily and routines we put ourselves through can be distracting from the feeling of presence. Consider closing your eyes without fear of the world or time itself going anywhere. Consider stillness. Consider evaluating each breath as it goes inside your body, inflating you like a balloon, and slowly out. Consider feeling each and every particle flowing from your fingertips to the crown of your head and from your toes to your thighs. Allow yourself to come out of your shell. To leave it, detaching. Then return, becoming one with it.
